About Us

Eternal Return Antiquarian Bookshop all started, sort of, in February of 2006 with a road trip from San Francisco to Los Angeles. This was where I bought my first truly rare book! It was from Bill Schaberg and Athena Rare Books. Bill and I became fast friends and for the next 9 years I helped acquire books, write catalogs, and work at book fairs. I found ways to absorb as much knowledge as possible from Bill. Additionally, I had the pleasure of working with John Windle of John Windle Antiquarian Booksellers in San Francisco. This allowed me to hone my cataloging skills and find ways to learn as much as I could. I was fortunate enough to have two of the best as mentors!

As a full-time high school philosophy and literature teacher, my interests lie primarily in philosophy and philosophical literature. I enjoy acquiring those books I loved as a college and graduate student, and as a teacher. However, as a beer-lover (and amateur beer brewer), I recently started acquiring important books on the history of beer.

What I love about collecting and selling rare books is that often the publication history is as important as the ideas in the books themselves! There is the struggle authors and thinkers traverse to get ideas to a receptive audience, which has been often fraught with difficulty—financial, social, and professional. It is nice to share my enthusiasm with others who may be buying their first rare book and entering the magical world of a bibliophile!

This is what led me to the decision to open my own shop in 2015:
